A homage to the Buchette del Vino of Italy, a unique and historical way of enjoying a glass of wine passed to you through a window on the portico, surrounded by the beautiful Renaissance architecture of The Senator Hotel building in Sacramento.
The Buchette del Vino all started as a way for wine merchants to continue serving wine during the Bubonic plague in Florence, Italy. These Buchette del Vino, or wine windows, were the best way to safely enjoy wine during a precarious time. These small wine windows, sometimes just a hole in the side of a building, were a way to ensure drinks were delivered in a socially distanced way. With the onset of COVID-19 and a need for the safe sale of wine, these windows became en vogue again in Florence, and store and restaurants owners began passing wine back through these historic structures.
